Zaven Rock-and-roll interview Series: Andreas Lamping, General Counsel of Hellmann Worldwide Logistics

Q: “What do you dream of improving in your relationship with law firms?”

Andreas: “ Law firms can learn that. That they need to work on themselves on the relationship with the company. They need to understand the business model. They need to understand what’s happening. And to give a better and on the spot device.”

Q: “Great thoughts. What is missing in your interaction with law firms?”

Andreas: “ I think law firms, they act on a case by case basis. They never see things as a whole. So you talk to one partner, that partner has no information about anything that happened before. Talk to the next partner and so on. So you’re always explaining things over again.

You know, one day you come with a finance topic. Next day you come with an IP topic. You know, they have no linkage because of their partnership and they work partner by partner. So it would be nice if they had a common client sharing, not sensitive metadata, but general data about what they are working on, what’s their model and so on…”

Q: “Where does it click with law firms and make it a huge success?”

Andreas: “ Obviously, if law firms are able to make this a wholesome experience for a client, it’s worth the money. The end. They can even use it by leveraging technology. So you’re not starting from scratch, paying for the first hour somebody looks at it, so they can already have a base, use the technology as a lever, and then just sell you the added value. So you’re already ahead of the curve when the whole journey starts. And then you save the time, you’re much quicker, you get much more value for money, because it fits the case much better.”
